As many people ask themselves waaaat they should do for work of in life in general, waat wants to make finding answers to these questions easier. Waat’s purpose is to offer information about what kinds of professions there are in the world, What people actually do in these professions, and how they like what they do.

FOR high-schoolers and STUDENTS, waat would like to make them to pay attention to two things - to think about the actual daily work they would be doing in a few years (not only about what it would be like to study, that’ll last a while). ALSO, it’s important to think what you would actually enjoy doing. disliking something 8 hours/day sounds insane!

NEW DATA WILL BE ADDED ALL THE TIME, the eventual purpose being covering all possible professions from cleaners to cheese sculptors to politicians. In case you have any questions of feedback about waat, please contact

Could you describe your job in short?

I work for an international consultancy company with tasks related to digital marketing, ecommerce and marketing technology consulting. Normally we work by projects and therefore tasks and responsibilities vary a lot.

What do you do on average work day?

If working an average day in Finland, I wake up at 7:50, and get at the office (if going to) by 8:45. Typical day includes couple of on-premise meetings, few calls internationally and project specific work. Depending on my schedule, I might go to the gym after lunch or once I'll leave the office. I normally end my day around 17:00 and try to only check e-mails during the evenings.

Days during international projects an average day might differ quite a lot from my average day in Finland.

What do you love about your job?

Variety. There's always something new to learn and work doesn't get repetitive very easily. Also travelling and working in different kind of cultures is something that I enjoy a lot.

What are the worst parts of your job?

Hours might be long sometimes and there's always a little bit of uncertainty where you're going to be working after your current project ends. And the cons of travelling: it takes a lot of your time.

What are the most important skills in your job?

Analytical skills Communication Productiveness Teamwork Time management

What are the most important tools/softwares in your job?

Microsoft PowerPoint Google Analytics

How do you acquire and develop these skills?

One should explore as many different SaaS based digital marketing services as possible and try them hands on. Also basic understanding in databases and ecommerce technologies are highly beneficial. I'd also encourage people to learn at least the basics of statistics and try some analytics tools to get insights on how you might be able to solve business cases with data because that's something which is universal, no matter which part of the organization you are working in.
