As many people ask themselves waaaat they should do for work of in life in general, waat wants to make finding answers to these questions easier. Waat’s purpose is to offer information about what kinds of professions there are in the world, What people actually do in these professions, and how they like what they do.

FOR high-schoolers and STUDENTS, waat would like to make them to pay attention to two things - to think about the actual daily work they would be doing in a few years (not only about what it would be like to study, that’ll last a while). ALSO, it’s important to think what you would actually enjoy doing. disliking something 8 hours/day sounds insane!

NEW DATA WILL BE ADDED ALL THE TIME, the eventual purpose being covering all possible professions from cleaners to cheese sculptors to politicians. In case you have any questions of feedback about waat, please contact

Could you describe your job in short?

I am a self-employed person whose main task is to solve my customer´s problems concerning housebuilding and upkeeping their real estate.

What do you do on average work day?

An average work day varies a lot. It may be building a roof in bonefreesing winterday, consulting a customer in a very decent environment, renovating a 200 years old summer house 20 km offshore or fixing basewater pumps in 60 meter deep railway tunnel.

What do you love about your job?

Variety is the best side of this job. Construction as a profession offers so wide scale of possibilities that you certainly don't have to repeat routines if you dont want to. A well-done job lasts in best cases centuries and brings joy to the every-day user.

The technical challenges keep this job interesting. After almost four decades in this field I learn something new every week. After building up well-planned architechnical structures you happen to notice you have created beauty and elegance to this world.

What are the worst parts of your job?

Economical risks are dangerous especially in early days of career when you lack experience. There are a lot of well-planned traps available in the market. Construction is also physically demanding, therefore lazy persons better end up with something else.

Learning by doing. Getting working experience in as variable tasks as possible. I haven`t seen a school system which teaches construction or housebuilding effectively as general.

If your job differed from your initial expectations, what were your expectations and how did your job differ from them?

I had no expectations. I found construction demanding enough to be interesting and wanted to develop my skills further.
