I work as geography and biology teacher in an upper secondary school. I am also responsible for students who take matriculation examinations on geography.
I start working around 8, and classes begin at 8.30. Class durations are 75min, and during the day I might have some class-free hours, when I can prepare the upcoming classes or take care of tasks related to work community. Weeks also include some mandatory meetings. And sometimes coffee breaks. Classes finish between 15-16.15 and the work day ends at 16.40. During the exam weeks the days are significantly longer.
Nowadays the work is very independent and dynamic. As the digital world is more important, working has become quite computer oriented. Working with young people keeps you youthful.
Busy schedules and a big amount of routine work. Being off causes you double amount of work, so I always try to make it to work, since you get off with less to do. Also big student groups can be straining.
Getting more training every now and then. Google’s diverse services also require independent learning, but you can also ask help from students.
I expected to have more laid-back work without hurry. Now there’s enough of it.
