I am a self-employed ukulele tutor. My main responsibility is to provide quality music tuition to a wide variety or people of all ages and abilities. I also perform as an entertainer and lecturer.
My days vary very much depending on where I am teaching, be at home on Skype, at college in front of a class or performing in front of an audience. Yesterday for example I spent a couple of hours preparing lessons and answering emails and phone queries. After a bit of admin after lunch I taught a variety of individuals for five or six hours. In the evening I taught a group in a local pub until 10pm. Sometimes my days can be very long but very rewarding and fun.
I love teaching music, which is my greatest passion in life. I genuinely love my job. I enjoy the freedom of being my own boss and setting my work levels.
I can have weeks where I work 40-50 hours and others where I work 20. You can never guarantee a long term income.
I feel like I improve as a teacher every day. Nothing beats gaining as much experience as possible and treating every day as a learning opportunity.
There is a lot of administration, accounting and preparation work involved.
